HE L P I NG YOU I NFORM , PERSUADE AND I NF LUENCE – C r A clean slate Welsh Slate is the world’s leading supplier of high-quality slate for a range of exterior and interior design applications. Its products are widely recognised as the finest natural slate in the world. Welsh Slate is a part of the Breedon Group plc which is the largest independent construction materials group in the UK. Breedon is a longstanding Quiet Storm client and we have worked closely with various parts of the business on many projects over the years. For this one, we were appointed to support three specific initiatives – a website redevelopment project, new exhibition graphics, marketing materials and event support, and a new roofing and landscaping product brochure. Julie Owen, Welsh Slate’s Marketing and Communications Manager, said: “We’ve really enjoyed working with Quiet Storm and the results speak for themselves. “Their team are very easy to work with and are always there whenever we’ve needed anything. “We operate in a complex marketplace and we’re not an easy company to understand, but because Quiet Storm has partnered Breedon for many years, they’ve handled these projects really well to give us everything we need.” Breedon Group Plc is a leading construction materials group, producing a wide range of aggregates, cement and specialist concrete products. As part of the group’s commitment to corporate social responsibility, they carry out many activities within the local community. We were asked to support one such CSR initiative at its head office, where they ran a competition with a local primary school to raise awareness of safety risks in and around quarries and large vehicles. Children were asked to design two banners highlighting road safety issues to make drivers aware of potential hazards in the local area. We helped to create visual designs based on the winning pictures, as the print, delivery and installation of the new banners, which were placed nearby. Mesh-type banners were used to comply with local planning rules. Linda Lawrence, PA at Breedon Group, said: “We’ve worked with Quiet Storm on many projects over the years and are delighted with their support on this particular initiative.” Helping Breedon show support for the community The annual event, which took place in February, at Loughborough’s Holywell Park Conference Centre, in Loughborough, proved to be a rip-roaring celebration of local business success, following two years of COVID-related doom and gloom. There was an added twist of glitz and glamour, thanks to this year’s ‘Roaring Twenties’ theme. The Roaring Twenties was a period of history which saw the UK economy bounce back to prosperity following the devastation of World War One. After a couple of austere years following the conflict, post-war confidence and spending power returned. Jazz clubs and cocktail bars flourished, a sense of renewed optimism spread across the country and businesses started to boom. This year marked the ten-year anniversary of Love Business, which has grown into the region’s biggest and best annual showcase of business success. Over the years, the event has had a hugely positive impact on the economy and the community. Quiet Storm Managing Director Steve Megson, who founded Love Business, said: “It was great to be back with Love Business, which proved our most successful year yet. “After two years of COVID lockdowns and uncertainty, there was a real buzz about the place as businesses got back out there to reconnect and embrace the opportunities that lie ahead.” Planning for next year’s event is already underway. It takes place at the same venue, on Thursday 16 February 2023, and dozens of exhibitors have already secured their expo stands.
