NHS Awards given five star treatment

The annual ‘OSCAs’ recognise staff excellence at the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. Effective marketing of the event to the 7000 strong workforce is as important as the glittering awards ceremony itself and proves to employees that their hard work and achievements are highly valued and appreciated.

The Trust is responsible for managing the University Hospital in Coventry and the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby. Both hospitals offer innovative and leading-edge clinical services to a population of over a million people in the West Midlands.

For the 2009 OSCAs the Trust asked Quiet Storm to help market the event and project manage the actual awards night. The first step was to create a range of publicity materials to generate excitement about the OSCAs and leave employees in no doubt that outstanding achievement should be recognised and rewarded.

Working within the Trust’s brand guidelines, the On Paper team designed a leaflet to explain the awards process, a nomination form for staff to complete and an A3 advertising poster. All these materials were expertly and economically produced using Quiet Storm’s own digital print facilities. Then, once the judging process was complete, variable data technology was used to produce personalised certificates for the 23 award winners and 205 nominees.

Ensuring the awards night ran smoothly was the responsibility of Quiet Storm’s On Show department. They organised the staging, sound, lighting, voice-overs and the soundtracks played as each winner walked to the stage to receive their award. To set the scene for the awards the Trust requested the show-reel Quiet Storm had produced to introduce the OSCAS the previous year. It strongly conveys the expertise and compassion of the Trust’s workforce and includes beautifully shot visuals of Warwickshire landmarks.

Adam Race, Human Resource Manager for the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust said: “The OSCAs are a chance to say thank you to employees who have excelled in their roles. This is a key event in our calendar and we need the whole process to run smoothly.

“This year we relied on the expertise at Quiet Storm to help us project manage both the preparation and the awards night itself. Everyone involved was excellent. They professionally marketed the OSCAs to our 7000 strong workforce and ensured the materials echoed our corporate identity. It was a great night and the way they managed the event from the back of the room was impressive.”
