Quiet Storm backing for charity bike ride

The team at Quiet Storm was delighted to back a charity cycling challenge which saw 15 riders use their pedal power to get from Leicester to Amsterdam in just three days.

We were a main sponsor of Help the Homeless Leicester’s 2022 fundraising challenge, which took place in June.

The 12-strong group of cyclists took to the saddle for more than 200 miles, as they attempted to pedal all the way from Leicester City’s King Power Stadium to the Ajax Arena, in Amsterdam.

They raised funds to help tackle homelessness in Leicester, as well as support people with chronic illness across the UK.

Quiet Storm Director Phil Megson said:

“Supporting local charities is a big part of our CSR here at Quiet Storm. We’ve helped many local organisations over the years, providing things like free business advice and consultancy, printed and online marketing materials, sponsorship and even hands-on support at events across the region.  Help the Homeless Leicester does vital work to help so many people who have fallen on tough times to turn their lives around and leave the streets behind, so we’re delighted to support this really worthy cause.”

Founded by Arif Voraji in 2018, Help the Homeless Leicester is a grassroots charity that offers a range of support and services to enhance the lives and improve the health of homeless people in and around the city.

This ranges from a weekly meal, where anyone in need can pop down for some wholesome and healthy food, to conducting outreach to help rough sleepers on the streets and finding short-term and long-term accommodation solutions in partnership with Leicester City Council.

Further support and services include offering emergency food parcels at its HQ, delivering food items to those who are unable to purchase basic essentials, and sessions to equip people with the skills and know-how they need, such as budgeting, cooking and CV writing, to help them reintegrate back into society once appropriate accommodation has been found.

Help the Homeless Leicester has already secured more than half of its £50,000 fundraising target for the challenge in online donations.

The cash raised will enable the charity to:

  • Support homeless people or those at risk of homelessness into new accommodation
  • Provide food essentials to anybody who is struggling
  • Relieve social isolation by providing vulnerable people with  basic mobile phones with top-ups
  • Providing move-in packs for those coming out of homelessness and into a tenancy

The charity has also pledged to give 20% of raised to Crohn’s & Colitis UK to support its amazing work on a national scale.

Arif Voraji said:

“We’re delighted to have Quiet Storm on board as a sponsor for this challenge, which will not only help raise vital cash to support our work, but also make more people aware of what we do to support homeless people in Leicester. Our relationship with Quiet Storm started when they very kindly offered us a stand at this year’s Love Business Expo, so it’s good to be able to strengthen these ties beyond the event.”

Arif and his team provide support to homeless people from all walks of life, from rough sleepers and families being evicted from their homes to released prisoners and people with no fixed address. They work closely with a range of local partners to help get people into accommodation and access the support and services they need to start rebuilding their lives.

The charity also hosts a weekly event where people can come for a hot meal.

Over the past 12 months, the charity has helped get 190 rough sleepers into suitable accommodation based on their individual needs. It has more than 20,000 followers on social media and is supported by a wide range of local businesses and organisations, including East Midlands Chamber, several local authorities, and retailers including Asda, Greggs, M&S and Tesco.

Arif continued:

“We wouldn’t be able to do the work that we do without the help of all our kind sponsors and donors, so a big thanks to Quiet Storm and all the other local organisations that have supported us over the years.”
