Yorkshire Water uses rambler maps to drive traffic to website

Water and sewage services company Yorkshire Water is the largest landowner in its region and is keen to encourage people to discover and enjoy the countryside it owns.

Replacing their folding A4 two-colour walks maps printed on cardboard, which have been issued for the past decade had become a priority.

Quiet Storm was invited to have a look at alternatives and presented concept designs for electronic versions that could be placed on their website to be downloaded by visitors. These were accepted as the perfect route.

"We are delighted with them," said Craig Spence of Yorkshire Water.

"And the figures show that visitors to www.yorkshirewater.com are too – they are our most popular downloaded pages with around 200 of each one being taken from the site each month."

To date Quiet Storm has produced 21 maps, all of which are on the site and which can also be provided as printed documents to those without Internet access.

And the mapping success continues…
The brief from the National Forest’s Rosliston Forestry Centre for a visitor guide was along similar lines and Kate Allies, Environmental Development Officer at the Centre, said: "It is vital that the location map and site plan on our visitor guide are appealing and informative and Quiet Storm has achieved both. I am really, really pleased with the guide."
