For ECS Special Projects Ltd, branding was a matter of clarity. Operating in marine-based explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), the company faced a unique challenge: its visual identity was nearly identical to a former sister company located on the same estate. For a business handling high-stakes defence and offshore projects, this confusion was a risk. Recognising that their brand had fallen behind their technical capabilities, Managing Director Steve Randall partnered with Quiet Storm to redefine their identity. ECS isn’t a typical engineering firm; they develop specialist systems for detecting and disposing of explosives in challenging subsea environments. With global demand rising due to geopolitical instability and offshore renewable energy growth, they needed a brand that reflected precision and credibility. We focused on real-world visibility. Branding for ECS must perform on operational equipment, in industry publications, and across global defence video content. The resulting identity differentiates them from their origins while remaining robust enough for both military and commercial sectors. Steve Randall notes that the process provided essential strategic direction, ensuring the brand now matches the serious, life-critical nature of their work as they continue to grow. To keep pace with evolving customer expectations, the business required a digital presence that matched its market- leading reputation. Quiet Storm partnered with Breedon to transform their website from a static product showcase into a sophisticated e-commerce platform. Modern customers demand more than just technical data; they seek inspiration and a seamless path from browsing to purchasing. By implementing full e-commerce capability, the site now allows users to explore ranges and buy directly online, opening significant new growth opportunities. To support this transition, we prioritised high-quality visual content – an “Inspiration Gallery” featuring project showcases – such as driveway transformations – helps customers visualise real-world applications and gain confidence in their choices. Behind the scenes, Quiet Storm provided comprehensive product photography, including “wet and dry” shots to show natural material variation. This ensures that the digital representation of the aggregates is as accurate as possible, which is critical in a sector where aesthetics are paramount. The 2024 launch was the beginning of a process of continuous improvement rather than a one-off project. We continue to work as an extension of Breedon’s team, offering strategic advice and technical solutions to refine user journeys based on real-world behaviour. Laura McGlynn, Commercial Manager for Special Aggregates said “Launched in 2024, our e-commerce platform has gone from strength to strength, expanding rapidly by prioritising user inspiration and ordering convenience. Throughout this growth, the team at Quiet Storm have been instrumental by working closely with us and providing the advice and support needed to fine-tune our website and evolve our range to meet the latest customer trends and needs.” Breedon Special Aggregates, a division of the UK-based Breedon Group, specialises in decorative and surfacing products for landscaping, driveways, and architectural projects. A significant milestone in their growth was the 2018 integration of Welsh Slate, a heritage brand that added iconic, high-quality products to their portfolio. Digital expectations evolve rapidly, so brands must update their presence to stay visible. For Matsuura, Quiet Storm refreshed their website to modernise the user experience through better performance and SEO. A key product selector now simplifies decision-making by guiding users to specific technical solutions. New drone cinematography also showcases Matsuura’s UK facility. This update presents their engineering expertise through a faster, more intuitive platform without reinventing their identity. The result is a high-performance presence that mirrors their precision, keeping them at the forefront of manufacturing.
